About Katie

A woman with curly, shoulder-length hair and glasses, wearing a striped sweater, smiling softly in front of a beige wall.

My Approach:

Clients often describe me as warm, direct, engaging and easy to talk to.

Together, we will slow down and get curious about your story as it is unfolding. I’ll gently guide you toward more authenticity and alignment with what matters most to you.

More than anything, I want to really hear you—and ask the kind of questions that help you find meaning and connection in your life, even when things are hard.

I welcome individuals of all cultures, races, abilities, religions, sexual orientations, and gender identities.

Areas of Focus:

Pregnancy and Parenting

Grief

Relationships

Scheduling:

I offer primarily early morning, evening and weekend appointments.

Therapeutic modalities that I draw from include:

Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), an attachment-based approach which focuses on coping with life transitions, addressing conflict and working through grief and loss

Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), a short-term, goal-focused therapy focusing on constructing solutions rather than focusing on problems.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), an approach focused on learning how to identify and change thought patterns that have a negative influence on behavior and emotions.

Motivational Interviewing (MI),  a collaborative, goal-oriented style of communication that is designed to strengthen personal motivation for and commitment to a specific goal by exploring the person’s reason for change with acceptance and compassion.

Mindfulness-based approaches, focused on highly accessible tooIs to help you be more present in your daily life.

Kindness

-Naomi Shihab Nye

Before you know what kindness really is
you must lose things,
feel the future dissolve in a moment
like salt in a weakened broth.
What you held in your hand,
what you counted and carefully saved,
all this must go so you know
how desolate the landscape can be
between the regions of kindness.
How you ride and ride
thinking the bus will never stop,
the passengers eating maize and chicken
will stare out the window forever.

Before you learn the tender gravity of kindness
you must travel where the Indian in a white poncho
lies dead by the side of the road.
You must see how this could be you,
how he too was someone
who journeyed through the night with plans
and the simple breath that kept him alive.

Before you know kindness as the deepest thing inside,
you must know sorrow as the other deepest thing.
You must wake up with sorrow.
You must speak to it till your voice
catches the thread of all sorrows
and you see the size of the cloth.
Then it is only kindness that makes sense anymore,
only kindness that ties your shoes
and sends you out into the day to gaze at bread,
only kindness that raises its head
from the crowd of the world to say
It is I you have been looking for,
and then goes with you everywhere
like a shadow or a friend.
